Step by step

  1. 1

    Ask Gemini for the page

Describe the page you have in mind and Gemini writes the HTML for you. Add “as a single HTML file” to the prompt so the CSS ships together with the markup — that turns the next step into one paste instead of several. Grab the code with the copy button on the response, and you're ready.

  2. 2

Save it as an HTML file and open it in MakeLayer

If your AI shows a download button, use it to get the HTML file — that's the easiest way. If not, paste the copied code into Notepad and, when saving, set “Save as type” to “All files (*.*)” and name it index.html — otherwise it saves as index.html.txt and won't show up when you pick a file. Then on the makelayer.com homepage, press “Import my files”, choose “Open an HTML file” and pick that file — the page opens in a live preview, exactly as it will look.

  3. 3

    Pick an address and publish

Choose a name for your address and press “Get started and publish”. Log in once and it publishes with the same file and address — your site is on the internet from that moment. The free plan covers 5 sites and never asks for a card.

    myname.mklyr.com Live

That's the kind of address you get the moment you publish. Bring your own domain from the Plus plan onward and HTTPS is issued automatically.

Make future edits by typing, not prompting Gemini again

There's no need to go back to Gemini for small changes. In the editor, describe what you want changed — the AI locates the right code, shows you the diff before touching anything, and a single click reverts it if you don't like the result.

Frequently asked questions

Is this actually free?

Yes — up to 5 sites stay free indefinitely and we never ask for a card. Free sites carry a small “Made with MakeLayer” badge, which disappears once you're on Plus or above.

Does the code Gemini writes work once it's published?

Yes. The HTML file you open is published exactly as-is. In the pre-publish preview, scripts written into the page don't execute — on the published site everything runs normally.

Can the site have more than one page?

Yes. Multi-file sites — sub-pages, image folders, and the like — work on the free plan too. What the free plan limits is storage and the number of sites, not the file count. To upload a whole folder, zip it and choose “Upload a ZIP” under “Import my files” on the homepage.

Can I point my own domain at it?

Yes, from Plus onward you can connect a domain you already own, and the HTTPS certificate is issued automatically. On the free plan you just use the mklyr.com address you're given.

Do I need to know how to code to make changes?

No. Type something like “change the class times” into the editor and the AI edits the code for you. You can also click an element to point at it directly. Even on Free, your last save and one auto-backup per day you save (the latest 3) are kept, so you can roll back from “Versions.” Keeping publish and manual versions starts on the Plus plan.
